In 1872 Patek Philippe began a lasting and memorable relationship with a Brazilian jeweller based in Rio de Janeiro called Gondolo & Labouriau. Later that same year Patek Philippe delivers the companies first piece, a silver cased pocket watch. In 1902 Gondolo commissions an exclusive patek Philippe pocket watch with a gold gear train, the chronometro Gondolo and deliveries of that model start that same year. Now famous with Patek Philippe collectors the world over, the marketing method of the Brazilian jeweller is as famous as the models themselves. Gondolo and Labouriau offers customers the oppurtunity to join an exclusive club and in return with a weekly subscription fee. The jeweller would organise events and picnis where all members woud get together. Each week a member was picked at random and given a Gondolo Chronometro timepiece. They idea being all members would at one point own a Patek Philippe. Still to this day, Patek Philippe honours this exclusive club and retailier with its current Gondolo range.
