First created in 1932 and Inspired by the minimalist principles of the Bauhaus- A german school of art and architecture which adheres to the principle that “form must follow function”. The Patek Philippe Calatrava is the essence of classism and the most iconic design within the Patek family. Made in several different designs, each model follows the circular form of the movement and the clear clarity of the dial. The Calatrava has for years been the prototype of the classic round wrist watch, including the officers style case with hindged dust cover. In 2013 Patek Philippe decided to create a model that pays homage to both styles, with its smooth functional case and solid dust cover with invisible hindge, the very fine and rare ref 5227 was created. Made in an all 18ct rose gold case with solid 18ct rose gold hindged case back cover. Held on a genuine black alligator strap with matching 18ct rose gold pin buckle. Fitted with the highly complicated and decorated Manufacture calibre 324 S C mechanical self-winding movement, features include date and central seconds. Ivory lacquered dial with applied gold markers and finished with a sapphire crystal glass and caseback.
